The Attachment Psychology Practice

Baby and Parent hand in hand

Many of the parents I work with online and in Hampstead are deeply shocked by the reality of how hard parenting can be with a little baby or toddler. You might be feeling intensely anxious and constantly on edge, struggling with intrusive thoughts of harm coming to your baby, or terrified of getting something wrong. It is incredibly common to feel completely overwhelmed, low, and disconnected from the person you used to be before.

I support individuals and couples navigating all stages of the early years. This can include struggling to feel the way you thought you would for your new baby; the complicated, sometimes painful transition from one child to two; or navigating raw toddler rages that bring up things from your own past that feel hard to manage. A lot of the couples I see feel a distance growing from their partner, finding it really hard to connect or find any time together.

I also specialize in working with those who have had a traumatic start—whether that is a difficult birth, time in the NICU, feeding trauma, or worries about your baby’s health. This can often go hand-in-hand with a silent sense of shame, or a feeling that you have somehow failed before you have even got started.

Many of the parents I see are isolated here in London; their families are far away or overseas, and they simply do not have the practical support that everyone needs to look after a young family. You might have had a really tough time yourself growing up, and now you want to do something different for your own kids but are not quite sure how.

You don't have to carry this alone. Therapy can help you find yourself again, and see the way forward as a family.

About Me

Dr Verity Wilkinson

A short introduction (1 minute)

hcpc registered.png

I am an HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist with over 15 years of NHS experience, specializing in highly expert perinatal and parent-infant mental health services across London. My clinical background includes extensive work within specialist NHS services, where I have spent over a decade supporting families from all over the world navigating complex relational and developmental transitions.

My practice is integrative, allowing me to draw flexibly from a range of evidence-based models—including Attachment-Informed frameworks, Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). This allows us to safely tailor our sessions precisely to what you need.

One of the reasons I find this work so rewarding is that this is a time of massive transition. Sometimes, patterns that have been stuck for a very long time can finally become unstuck because you are ready to do something different for your child. My goal is to combine this high-level psychological expertise with a warm, collaborative space where we can hold your feelings up to the light, ensure you feel less alone, and work together towards the changes you want to see in your self and your family relationships.

How I Can Help

My work is collaborative and strength-based, which means we work together flexibly to work on the change that you want to see. I provide a warm, thoughtful space where you don't have to have it all figured out, helping you feel that you’re not alone in any of this.

My goal is to help you safely look at what is happening under the surface and begin to make sense of what you’re going through, at your own pace.

Together, we can work on:

  • Holding heavy feelings: Digging down into deep, sometimes shameful feelings, holding them up to the light, and finding more compassionate ways of looking at them.

  • Sorting through projections: Tuning into what your baby or child is really thinking and feeling, and helping you put your worries back in the right places.

  • Navigating your identity: Rebuilding your confidence in day-to-day life—as a parent, and as more than just a parent.

  • Unsticking old patterns: Exploring what is being triggered inside you so you can confidently do things differently for your own family.

  • Building self compassion: Working out ways to relate to yourself that are less critical and harsh, and more gentle and supportive.
